RUNANGA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent)

The following were present at the Runanga School Committee’s usual meeting: Mesdames W. Wright and A. Taylor, Messrs G. Brown, R. Thompson and J. Richmond (secretary). Canterbury Education Board advised that application is being made to the Department for a grant for an additional classroom to the school. The headmaster (Mr E. M. Todd) said that available halls were too far away from the school to be suitable alternatives, and he suggested providing a temporary office in the main hallway, and using the present office as a small classroom. Ap additional B grade male assistant became possible this year, and the position has been filled by Mr R. J. Harrington, from Canterbury. The remainder of the staff is (he same as for last year. Miss R. Thompson has received notice that she has been appointed to Boddytown, and will probably leave at the end of the month, or end of the term. With seven teachers and six rooms, accommodation has become somewhat of a problem. One small class is more or less conveniently housed in the main hall. ___
