PINNED BENEATH TRACTOR: MAN DIES

DANNEVIRKE, Nov. 8. John Donald McPherson, single, aged 26, whose parents reside at Tipapakuku, received injuries at Whetukura, near Ormondville, on Saturday while using a tractor on the farm of Mr H. O. King. He died in the Dannevirke Hospital about 12 hours later. Mr McPherson left early on Saturday morning to do giant-discing in rough country about a mile and a half from the King homestead. When he did not return at tea-time, Mr King went to investigate and found the tractor on its side, with Mr McPherson pinned underneath with a leg severed below the knee. He was still conscious. Mr King had to go back for help and it was 2 a.m. on Sunday before Mr McPherson was admitted to hospital, where he died an hour later.
