MORE THAN £500,000 ADVANCED TO EX-SERVICEMEN
Coast Rehabilitation Activities Since 1944 Since the Rehabilitation Department began operations in Greymouth m 1944, 963 applications by ex-ser-vicenien have been received for advances totalling £571,154. Applications were for housing, businesses, farms, miscellaneous loans, and tools of trade, and came from ex-service-men in Greymouth to south of Punakaiki, to Okuru in South Westland. Th© bulk of advances were obtained for housing, with farms next in demand. Advances for businesses and furniture were also high, while requests for miscellaneous loans and tools of trade were fairly high. Most of the homes were for erection in Greymouth and Hokitika, while the bulk of farm applications came from Kokatahi and Koiterahgi. Business applications were widely scattered throughout the district. Detailed figures, of the applications and advances made are:—
