PASTOR’S REPLY TO R.S.A. ON LOYALTY
WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. Replying to an inquiry from the Hutt Valley R.S.A. in respect to his views concerning servicemen, Mr F. R. Wilson, pastor of the Commonwealth Covenant Church, Lower Hutt, stated in a letter to the association that he was quite willing to (and did) serve in His Majesty’s forces when called upon to do so in the First World War.
He added: “Not only so, but my family through generations have been loyalists, and we are British to the backbone”. . Mr Wilson said he was born in New Zealand of British parents, and his ancestors had fought in wars back to time immemorial. He did not object to anyone joining the army. Every man and woman in the church was left to the freedom of his or her own will and conscience. He added that he had never spoken against the King’s uniform.
