At the Opera House Now Showing: “Living in a Big Way!’, starring Gene Kelly and Maria McDonald. Highlighting a mirthful tale of a guy who has married in haste and has a hat-ful of complications trying to reconvert at leisure, “Living in a Big Way” starring Gene Kelly (dancing star of “Anchors Aweigh,” is now showing at the Opera House. Lovely Maria McDonald is his romantic partner as well as his partner in a scintillating dance routine, but she is given plenty of competition by sixty-two-year-old Jean Adair, who not only plays a standout part as a fun-loving match-maker but also claims Kelly for a highly diverting waltz routine. Two other outstanding Kelly dances are the “Fido and Me’ number, and the “Pied Piper” dance, a tvpically arresting and novel Kefiy rendition. The plot, in brief, centres on Kelly returning from the war to claim Marie McDonald, who has married him in an impetuous “before sailing” moment. She has now changed her mind and wants a divorce. It is up to Kelly to show his fickle bride what she will miss by giving him up, and he does so in a series of sparkling comedy situations which enlist the aid of Jean Adair, playing Marie’s grandmother, Charles Winninger .playing a grumpy financier, Spring Byington, as a society matron, and Phyllis Thaxter as a homeless war wife.
