WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

The monthly meeting of the Rapahoe W.I. was held in the hall when Mrs Wilson presided over a good attendance. One new member was welcomed. The president and 18 members of the Runanga W.I. were guests of the evening. An invitation was received to join a holiday,travel party to Hamner, also to attend the Runanga birthday party. Remits from the W.C.F.W.I. were received ,and read. A bring and buy table was held the funds to be donated to the adoption of a United Nations’ Child. The Wandering Shilling was won by Mrs Kennedy. The motto: Never put off for tomorrow, what you can do to-day, was read by Mrs Cureen. .The roll call was: Spring cleaning hints. Competitions resulted: Bowl of spring flowers, Mrs Spruce 1, Mrs Dunn 2. Article from yard of material, Mesdames Sweeney and Elwood 1, Mrs Wafer 2; four cakes: Mrs Dunn 1; Mesdames Thompson and Elwood 2. Hostesses were Mesdames Cureen, Spruce and Clasper.
