PESTS CAUSE HUGE WORLD LOSSES IN GRAIN CROP

(Rec. 10.0) LONDON, Sept. 10 The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation has established that pests and rodents cestroy about sixty-five million tons of grain yearly between the harvesting and consumption—the equivalent of all the food travelling into the international trade. This was announced at a meeting at Brighton of the British Association. Dr Scott Robertson’s presidential address, read to the Association’s agriculture section, said: “The world losses of crops and stocks, when reduced to figures, are so fantastic that they create a feeling of unreality. Science knows how to control these stupendous losses, which could be quickly reduced with the application of proved remedial measures.”
