Mr. J. B. Kent, M.P., was applauded in the House of Representatives on Thursday when he piloted his first Bill through all stages. The Greymouth Harbour Amendment Bill of which Mr .Kent had charge, was in connection with the Cobden leases, which wilb expire in 1950, and gave the Board authority to renew them, stated the Board’s secretary, Mr. R. Steel, yesterday. ■ It also concerned the Dobson leases, which had expired in December, 1946, and gave the Board authority, to issue 99-year leases. The Minister in Charge of Police, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, announced that the time for the remand of £5OO offered in connection with the Wilkins murder has been extended, to February 28. The verdict at the inquest in April into the death of Roy Edward Wilkins, of Wellington, was that he was murdered by some person 1 or persons unknown. The original reward expired on August 31. The report of the Medical Services Committee which was appointed by the Government last year to review the medical service scheme in relation to social security, is expected To be tabled in the House of Representatives next week. Applications are being received by headquarters of the N.Z.R.S.A. for inclusion in a party of 50 ex-servicemen to visit Australia for next Anzac Dav. The applications close s on November 1. Six men will be chosen from each of the eight districts and a leader and adjutant will be appointed. Places will be awarded by ballot but so as to ensure that men selected come from as wide a number of centres as possible. The cost will be borne by the men.
