Plenty of Jobs For Migrant Builders In Australia
CANBERRA, September 9. The Australian Immigration Minister (Mr A. A. Calwell) said in the House of Representatives this afternoon that of 1000 British building workers brought to Canberra, 600 had left for employment elsewhere. He added that, the inducements offered to the migrants by employers cutside the Capital Territory were full award rates and conditions, free board and lodging and payment of income tax. Conferences were now proceeding with the States on a proposal that hostels should be built for housing single British migrants, the Commonwealth bearing half_the .cost.
