REEFTON NOTES

[•Our own Correspondent] PvEEFTON, September 9. Following the recent spell of warm weather, refreshing rains have gladdened farmers in the Inangahua and Grey Valleys. The growth is coming forward rapidly, and . there should be ample food "for stock for many months. Reefton, which has greatly increased in population with extensive new coal mining developments, is fast becoming the most up-to-date West Coast town. Shortly, large sections of the streets are to be tar-sealed o’.’ done in concrete blocks, and this should further enhance the town’s beauty. County workmen are busy clearing unused and unsightly sections in Broadway and other areas. Much house-building and alteration work is being done in Reefton. Good progress is being made with the new nurses’ home and other hospital buildings, as with houses being built for the Mines Department. Sections are extremely hard to secure in the town, and building is being advanced largely towards the Inangahua end of the township. Spring lambs seem to be prolific in the country areas this season, and good weather has assisted farmers in the lambing period. A qualifying round and L.G.U. match will be played by the Waitahu Women’s Golf Club to-morrow. Seniors will leave No. 1 tee at 1.10 p.m. followed by the intermediates.
