Roumanian Seizure Of British Property

LONDON, September 8. The British Minister at Bucharest delivered a Note to the Rumanian Government, protesting against the Rumanian nationalisation laws. The Note says that while the British Government does not dispute the rights of sovereign states to appropriate interests subject to its jurisdiction and belonging to British subjects, it refuses to recognise the validity of such expropriations when they are discriminative and when there are no provisions for compensation. The Note points out that the law of nationalisation applied to British interests, but not to Soviet interests. The Note states Rumania has clearly violated her peace treaty obligations to grant most favoured treatment to British interests, and demands restitution or compensation for tne properties nationalised.
