Rabbit’ Meat for American Market from Australia

AUCKLAND, August 23. Hopes of arranging importations to America of Australian frozen rabbits were expressed by Mr Norman Smorgan, a passenger in the Aorangi, which arrived at Auckland to-day from Sydney on the way to Vancouver. He is’ managing-director of a large Victorian canning company. “At present Britain is taking ali available Australian meat, and there would not be any for the American market for some time”, said Mr Smorgan. Rabbit meat, of which Britain took over 1,000,090 cases from Australia and New Zealand last year, is, however, available for the American market”. He added that lamb and mutton, previously unpopular' in the United States, had appealed to American servicemen in Australia during the war, and there was now a definite demand.
