HOKITIKA NOTES
[Our own Correspondent! Search for Missing Patient: HOKITIKA, August 23. An intensive search was organised on Sunday by the police, mental hospital attendants and members of the Mountaineering Club for a male patient who escaped from the Sea View Mental Hospital over two weeks ago. Sunday was his sixteenth riav of liberty. The area of land in the immediate vicinity of the Mental Hospital is treacherous for normal persons, many deep shafts, mostly covered with gorse and broom, - being veritable traps for the unwary wanderer. It is understood that the search on Sunday was fruitless. Large fires lit the sky in the bush areas on the outskirts of the town on Sunday. With a favouralbe northeast wind, farmers took the opportunity to burn off their land. The day was ideal, and the bush was like tinder following the spell of dry weather and sunny days.
