The ‘death took place at his residence. Brougham Street. Westport, of Mr David Tennant, a native of Victoria. Mr Tennant worked at the Globe Hill quartz mine when ,it was in full swing. He is survived by his wife.
Tne Adult Education Service will held a winter school ar Maruia on the King’s Birthday week-end. from June 5 to June 7. One of Allan Currows’ nlays will be read. The ounils of the Reefton District High School’s May collection for “Aid for Britain” amounted to £5 19s 6d.
The recently formed soccer team which travelled to Greymouth last week-end drew with the Grey team. This new team are doing well in the short time they have had together. Seventeen sets of pictures dealing with the different industries in New Zealand will be on show at Mr W. Schroeder's shop, and also at. the Coop., a new set being shown each Monday morning.
Mr IL Salmon returned on Saturday evening- from the Labour conference at Dunedin. There was a good attendance at the Ooquet Club’s dance last Friday evening. In the Reef ton Magistrate’s Court On Lee was charged with failing to keep a copy of certain price orders prominently displayed in his shop. Mr’ Kitchingham appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Morgan for accused, who was convicted and fined £1 with costs £2 Is 6d. Traffic Inspector' M. W. Allerbv prosecuted Arthur Douglas Bannan for using an unlicensed motor vehicle on a road near Reefton. Accused was fined £2 with costs I.os. Inspector Allerby also prosecuted John Michael Prendergast for operating a motor cycle without adequate foot-rests for a passenger he was carrying. Accused was fined £1 with costs 12s. Hannah Hansen Armstrong Reeve applied for separation and maintenance orders against her husband, Oswald Albert Reeve, on the grounds of failure to maintain, ami persistent cruelty. An order for payment of maintenance at £2 per week was made, and defendant was ordered to pay £1 10s costs. On a judgment summons. V. Loudon v. W. Reid, an order was made for the pavment of £ll 9s 7d forthwith, in default nine days’ imprisonment, issue of the warrant to be suspended on pavment of £2 per fortnight. In the Warden’s Court, Mr f. Maunsell, S.M., granted the following applications: J. A. Redpalh and Sons, Ltd., for leave to amend application by deleting the name of David Hamill. Stanley Charles. Griggs, Iman extension of time within which to dispose of application No. 3G. Stanley Charles? Griggs, for a mineral licence over 5 acres in Blk IV, Mawheraiti S.D. Leslie Mathew Gilsenan. for an extension of time within which to. dispose of Application No. 37. Victor William Alborn, Norman Richard Alborn and Roderick Victor Alborn, for leave to register an assignment affecting mining privileges (subject to payment of a fine of one shilling). The Warden recommended the following applications:--J. A. Redpalh and Sons, Ltd... for an extension of time within which to dispose of Application No. 40. William James Morris, for a mineral licence over 6 acres in Blk. X, Reefton S.D. Arthur Bernard Archer, Andrew Archer and Frank Archer, for a coal lease over 10 acres 2 roods 16 perches in Blk. VII, Reefton S.D. 'object to the Commissioner of Crown Lands reporting favourably). William Frederick Harris and Harry. Larkie Whiteland, for leave to register an assignment of a mining privilege (subiect to payment of a fine of one shilling).
