S.P.C.A. Worried At Hanging of Dog

AUCKLAND, May 6. The chairman of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Mr K. C. Aekins) referred to a dog which had been hanged by its neck from the branch of a tree in the Auckland Domain - this week. A thoroughbred collie about a year old, it was’ the property of Mr H. McD. Vincent, of Remuera, and had been missing from its home since Thursday. A niece of fencing wire ,had been fastened around the dog’s neck and suspended from a branch about five feet from the ground. The dog’s feet just touched the ground, and the manner in which the wire had cut into the branch indicated that the animal had struggled considerably before it died. Mr Aekins said the case was the worst he had heard of. He had communicated with the president of the Society (Sir Ernest Davis), who had offered a reward of £5O for, information which would identify the person responsible.
