Australia’s Move for More Migrants from United States

(Rec. 11.50) CANBERRA, April 23 In an effort to mantain a flow of American migrants to Australia, the Commonwealth Government will submit a proposal to the Australian Matson Line to keep the “Marine Phoenix.” on the Pacific run. ,!.■■ This is expected to be in the form of methods in ease the company’s cost while the vessel is in Australian water. The Government is not. prepared to subsidise the vessel because of the dollars involved. The Prime Minister, Mr ,T. B, Chifley, said to-day that the Shipping and Treasury officials were now examining the nroposal which would bq.made to the ship’s owners before the vessel was-taken off the run.
