THE TURF Thistoll Wins Appeal

PA. ctIRISTCHURCH, April 19. * An apueal by D.. J. Thistoll, a jockey, against his suspension from race riding for one month on March 29, by the judicial committee of the Canterbury-Jockfey Club on a charge of interference, was unanimously upheld by the Canterbury District Committee .to-day. • The charge .on which Thistoll was sentenced was that, as the rider of Love Letter, he interfered with Loch Lennox near the five furlong post in the Courtenay Handicap. Mr A. L. Lewis (acting stipendiary steward) and R. W. Shaw, the rider of Loch Lenox, gave evidence before the district committee. Mr C. S. Thomas appeared for Thistoll, and also called other evidence.

Jockey’s Recovery

P.A. ' WHANGAREI, April 19. The jockey, S. C. Devlin, who was seriously injured in the head, when Persian .Garden fell on the first day of the Whangarei races, recovered consciousness on Saturday night, and is making satisfactory progress. It is expected that he will remain in hospital for a ..fortnight.-
