Battle Outside Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, Anril 18.

The Arabs’ National Committee said that the Arab Judean Army had entered the Jewish settlement of Nevi Yacouv, five miles from Jerusalem, astride the main road to Nablus, and blew up several houses. Jewish sources denied the Arab claim and said: "A terrific battle is still in progress”. British Highland Infantry sources said the Arabs won a victory and captured 20 Jewish armoured cars. Arabs killed five Jews outside Haifa in a sharp engagement with Jewish forces.

Police in a British armoured car on entering the Waldheim internment camp saw three British military camp guards trussed under a tree with Jews preparing ropes to hang them.
