HOKITIKA POST OFFICE CONTRACT
Tenders Being Called Immediately
(Special to Argus) WELLINGTON, April 16.
The Government’s decision to erect at Hokitika a new Post Office is shortly being carried into effect. The plans have now been completed. A building permit for the works is being issued. Mr J. B. Kent, Member for Westland, made this announcement here to-day, and is communicating the details io the Mavor of "Hokitika and local bodies of that area.
The following communication today from the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, confirmed the Government’s intention on the matter: “Prime Minister’s Office. Wellington. April 16. 1948.—Dear Mr Kent, with reference to your personal representation to the Government since your election to Parliament as Member for Westland, following the strong advocacy of the late Mr Jas. O’Brien I have pleasure in informing you that I am now advised by the Minister of Works that approval has been given for the issue of a building permit for the erection of a new post office at Hokitika.
“The Government architect informs me that the plans are now completed, and that tenders will be called for the erection of the new building within the next two weeks.
“You will recall that a deputation comprising His Worship the Mavor of Hokitika, Mr A. F. Perrv and representatives of local bodies met mo at Hokitika in December last in regard to this matter, and I should be glad if you would advise them of the decision which has been reached, and assure them that their representations in support of the proposal received the full consideration of the Government.
