Missing Man Believed Drowned While Fishing
P.A AUCKLAND, April 16 ■An elderly man, who has been missing from his home at Garekare, near Piha, since Thursday morning, is believed to have been drowned while fishing. Hl is Ernest Edward Murfitt, aged 62 years, retired, a married man, of Karekare. Taking his fishing tackle with him, Mr Murfitt left home on Thursday morning, accompanied by two of his dogs. Although he did not return tor lunch, his wire was not alarmed. At about 2.30 p.m. one of the dogs returned, ano about 5 p.m. the other dog also returned Mrs Murfitt then went out to look for her husband, but she could, find no trace of him. She called some neighbours, who organised a search party, winch continued its efforts until a late hour, without result.
The party resumed its search this morning, and discovered some tangled fishing lines on rocks where Murfitt was in the habit of fishing. No trace of the missing man has been found. As the sea had become very rough, it is feared that. Murfitt was swept off the rocks while fishing.
