PERMANENT PRICE CONTROL OPPOSED
' p.A. ROTORUA, Feb. 24 The establishment of price control on a permanent peace-time basis was opposed by delegates to the New Zea.and Commercial Stationers’ Guild tnual conference which opened at. Rotorua this morning, it was Contended that price control could have only one effect, that of still hampering’ further free competition. i ••Although two years have now passed since the cessation of hostilities, traders are still subject to rigorous control in many directions,” said Mr N. T. H. Byng, the president, in presenting his annual report. “The recent dollar crisis has, and will have, an effect on our buying on the overseas market. Other Government controls have now passed from the emergency regulation into peacetime legislation, which will have a far-reaching effect on members and will require constant vigilance, in order that the interests of members may be safeguarded. Several of the clauses in the present Bill are entirely contrary to British justice, and commercial practice, and can only stih further curtail the activities of Hie business' community.”
