REEFTON NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent!. REEFTON, February 23. The Granity Silver Band visited Reefton on Sunday and gave short I recitals at the*' hospital and also at (the Rotunda in the afternoon. Both were very much appreciated. The Reefton and Granity bands combined in these recitals. The visiting band was entertained to morning 'tea ar the bandroom on their arrival. The Criterion Theatre was well patronised last Saturday by the young folk, who have been restricted from all entertainments for the past few months. Mr Bennett is visiting Christchurch where he had a win with the local horse Pimpernell. Mr W. Chandler, who has been under special medical treatment at Dunedin has returned home mucn > improved. Mr E. Bryce, of Waiuta was a visitor to Reefton for the week-end. Mrs W. C'oumbe, of Greymouth has returned home after visiting Mrs G. Bennett. I Mrs Hughes, junior, of England is visiting Mrs and Mr W. Hughes senior, her husband’s parents. Mrs Sharpe senior who underwent an operation in Christchurch Public Hospital, has returned home, improved in health. A pleasant evening was spent on Saturday by the men folk of Maruia and surrounding districts at the opening of the Maruia Gentlemen’s Club. There were 35 present and some very good items were rendered. Mr D. Rose was in _lhe chair, with Mr F. Douglas and R. Hewison as stewards, everything went off to perfection. Mr J. Cole, from Murchison, kept the partv well supplied with music. Coal mines in the Reefton district in the week ended February 21 produced 2408 tons of coal, an increase of over 400 tons on the output in the corresponding week in 1947.
