SOUTH ISLAND MARCHING COMPETITIONS HERE TO BE BROADCAST
At a meeting of the Grey Marching Association last evening, a letter was read from the Manager of Station 3ZR, outlining a plan to broadcast a running commentary on tne South Island Marching competitions to be held in Greymouth on January 31, commencing at 1.30 p.m. A iv.rther broadcast will be given at 7 p.m. when the final results and comments on the performances will be given. A loudspeaker system will also be rigged up at the scene of the display.
It was decided to forward a telegram to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Perry, requesting him to officiate at the opening of the championships at Victoria Park.
A letter was received from tne West Coast Athletic Centre requesting the marching teams to give a display during the professional athletics meeting to be held at Greymouth on April 3. At this meeting there will be a cup for the winning marching team, a cup for the best leader, one for the trainer of the winning team, a runners-up cup, and ten smaller trophies. The Blenheim Marching Association wrote stating that they regretted that there would be no teams from Blenheim participating- in the South Island marching competitions. The final decision on the judges is yet to be made. There was a lengthy discussion on different aspects of the marching pattern to be adopted at the competitions. Miss D. Green presided over -a good attendance of members.
