Wellington Coal Shortage Restricts Gas Supply
WELLINGTON, June 26. The gas position in Wellington has deteriorated further, and the company states that unless coal supplies arrive within the next day or two an over-all reduction of pressure will be necessary. The Karepo arrived from Westport, yesterday with 170 tons, but because of the bad weather only 40 tons have been unloaded so far. The watersiders, however, have offered to work the Karepo this afternoon whether the weather is wet or fine. The Fetone and Hutt Gaslighting Board will receive sufficient coal from the Karepo to keep their works going until Monday.
