BOXING WAIUTA CLUB NOTES

Mr E. Chandler took five boys to the Millerton Boxing Tournament and all performed creditably. Jim Wilson won his bout very easily on points but could have used his left to bettor advantage. His trainer reports taht he may be nominated to represent Buller in the near future. Lance Dean was unlucky to lose on a points decision to I. Cunliffe Lance appears to be an improved boy since changing from southpaw. John Wilson appears’ too harshly treated by the judges. His only weakness appeared to be that of occasionally putting his head down. John L. Sullivan was not disgraced to lose the decision to his more rugged opponent. Jimmy Phillips fought a determined bout and although he lost the decision, his gameness is certain to win him fights in the near future. Taking all things into consideration, Waiuta can feel justly proud of its boys who travelled more than 100 miles to Millerton, and performed creditably the same evening.
