MORE HOTEL SUITES IN NEW YORK FOR FAMILIES ON DOLE

(Rec. 8.50). NEW YORK, May 22. A further case of the Department of Welfare here installing a family on city relief in an expensive midManhattan hotel suite is disclosed today. This is the fourth similar case that has been discovered since it was revealed that the Department was providing a suite, with a maid service in a hotel just off Fifth Avenue for a husband, his wife and' children at a total cost of -640 dollars per month. It is understood that 37 families are at present housed in mid-town hotels as the recipients of home relief. One of these families is reported to have made a down payment on a motor-car, while on the dole. The Department of the Welfare says that the families are being housed in the hotels because it is virtually impossible to obtain low eleven medium-priced housing. The Mayor of New York, Mr O’Dwyer, has ordered an inquiry into the Department’s policies.
