EX-GERMAN ARMS GOING TO SPAIN FOR REPUBLICANS

ROME, May 22. The Genoa police rounded up a gang of arms runners who have been shipping salvaged German war material to the Spanish Republican forces. The police last night interpreted signals flashed to a ship waiting off the Italian coast and discovered a large cache of arms, including mortars, heavy and light machine-guns, rifles, grenades and ammunition. A member of the gang said they had been shipping arms by small boats from the Italian Riviera to a place near Marseilles, when the material was sent into Spain.
