DELUGE AT SYDNEY SEEPS THROUGH MANY UNREPAIRED ROOFS

/Rec. 10.30). SYDNEY, May 22. There was a very heavy fall of rain in the Sydney district last night, where it reached deluge proportions in some of the outer areas, especially the northern seaside suburban areas. The rain revealed the fact that many nf Sydney’s buildings which were damaged in the great hailstorm of New Year’s Day still have their roofs unrepaired. The falls of rain varied from 211 points in 48 hour's in the centre of the city, to over seven inches in the north at Manly.

Some flats at Bondi have sustained severe damage, including fallen ceilings. The shortage of tiles has meant that tarpaulins have covered some damaged roofs for five months. In the poorer areas, the position is even more serious, as corrugated iron to replace pierced sheets is v no’otairable.
