SOVIET DISSATISFIED WITH SHARE OF PLANTS FROM BRITISH ZONE
BERLIN, May 19. Russian authorities have refused to accept their 25 per cent, share of the allocation from 58 plants in th-? British zone. The Russian reasons for refusing are believed to be based on the following Russian allegations: (1) The allocation is made solely by the British zone authorities and not jointly by the four occupation Powers. (2) A large amount of equipment which the Russians badly needed, such as milling machines, presses, lathes and drills had “disappeared” from the factories since the first inventories were taken.
The Russians are said to have also objected to the alleged British action in taking three factories off the list of 61 approved for reparations. Reuter’s correspondent says: Following the Russians’ refusal to take 25 per cent., the full allocation, valued at £339,000 was offered to the Inter-Allied Reparations Agency for distribution to the 18 Western nations which are scheduled to receive 75 per cent, of all reparations from Germany.
