U.S. MISSION BEGINS AID FOR TURKEY

(Rec. 9.45). WASHINGTON, May 19. A twenty-man advanced party of the United States Military Mission will administer the American aid to Turkey. The twenty men left by an Army aircraft to-day for Istanbul, under the command of Major-General Lunsford E. Oliver, of the War Department General Staff. Eleven other Army officers, seven Naval officers, and a State Department representative made up the rest of the party. The Mission, it is reported, will work directly under the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Mr Edwin C. Wilson, at Instanbul, and will submit recommendations to Washington on how the one hundred million dollars that has been allotted to Turkey should be spent. Arms and military equipment, and aerodrome, and road construction are expected to be included in the over-all programme.
