U.S. Grain to Avert Famine in France
PARIS, May 19. The French Foreign Office announced that the United States has promised to rush sufficient wheat and maize to France to avert a bread famine this summer.
An official said that France faced a wheat deficit of 144,000 tons in the
■ second quarter of this year. The United States has promised an immediate emergency supply of 69,000 ‘tons of wheat and flour, and had also promised to delivei’ to French farmers 59,000 tons of maize in the hope that they will release the wheat they are holding to feed their livestock. Fiance will receive from the United States in May, June and July 75.000 tons of wheat and 220,000 tons of secondary grains.
