Police Youth Club Ball

For the first time in the history of Westport, the Police held a ball at the Victoria Theatre on Friday. The success of the function was shown in Sergeant Matthew’s appreciative speech, when he announced that the takings were a record. The ball was in aid of Police Youth Club funds, which provides sporting equipment, and recreation for the youths of Westport. Catering for boxing, wrestling, all indoor sports, athletics and rowing, the club is an asset to the community. Miss Nova Phibbs was popularly voted “belle of the ball.” Dressed in a white organdie evening gown, she looked a picture of beauty, grace, and charm. A natural comedian, Mr J. Wilson, kept the large gathering in a hilarious state, when giving his impressions of how a policeman earns his daily bread. The sketch being appropriate, was highly enjoyed by all. .
