ARAB PROPOSAL FOR FULL PALESTINE DEBATE REJECTED BY ASSEMBLY

(Rec. 4.50.) NEW YORK, May 1. The United Nations Assembly to-night rejected a proposal made by the Arab States for an immediate debate by the United Nations Assembly on the entire Palestine problem. The vote was announced as twenty-five to fifteen against the proposal. Ten of the delegations abstained from voting, when seven nations were absent from the meeting. A majority of two thirds of the Assembly was required to place the Arab States’ request on the Assembly agenda. Shortly before the vote, the President, M. Aranha, promised specifically that the Arab States would have a full opportunity to argue all aspects of the Palestine case before the Assembly’s Political Committee, as well as in the Assembly.
