SIX NOMINEES EOR SELECTION BY LABOUR AT AVON ELECTORATE

P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. The names of six nominees fox* selection as the Official Laboux* Candidate fox* the Avon seat, made vacant by the death of the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, will be considered by the National Executive of the Labour Party, during the week-end. An official announcement of the candidate ,is expected on Tuesday or Wednesday. The nominees are: Nurse A. Mack- . well; Mrs. A. J. Jones; Mr. A. B. . Grant, Mr. G. Manning, Mr. J. Mathison, and Mr. A. G. Williams. The nominations were made at -a special meeting in the Avon electorate on Tuesday evening, and at a meeting of the North Canterbury Laboux’ Representation Committee. Representatives of the National Executive of the Labour Party were present at both meetings, being Mr. James Roberts (National President), and Hon. Mr. R. Eddy, M.L.C. Messrs Roberts and Eddy will return to Wellington to-morrow evening, and they will report to the National Executive, which will make the selection of the candidate.
