Auckland Talk Of One Day Strike For Wage Rise
P.A. AUCKLAND, May 2. Reports that the Auckland Trades Council has suggested to the National Council of the Federation of Labour that a one-day general strike be held throughout New Zealand, with demonstrations in the principal cities, would be neither confirmed nor denied by a prominent member of the Trades Council to-day. “I have no comment,” he said. It. has been stated in certain quarters that the one-day "-’o-p-ps-tion was contained in a recommendation to the National Council to organise trade union action throughout the country to force support for the proposed wages application th« Arbitration Court, claiming a general increase of £1 a week.
