HOKITIKA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, April 16. The secretary of the R.S.A. at Hokitika, Mr G. Gilchrist, has been advised that Marshal Montgomery will visit here on Wednesday, July 23, at 4.30 p.m. Representations to include Hokitika in the visit were made by the Hokitika Progress League. The Gael is at present, trading between Picton and Wellington. She will come on to Hokitika when barconditions permit. Mr G, Friend, of Greymouth was a visitor this week. Mr James Donovan, of Okarito, who visited here for the County meeting, returned south on Wednesday. Mr F. W. Williamson, contractor, of Blenheim, was in Hokitika this wpek. His firm is at present engaged on the construction of additions to Hotel Westland. Some 120 girls took part in a knock-out basketball tournament, resulting as follows.: — United 0 v. Convent A 4; School A 5 v. Westland Textiles 1; Victorians 0 v. Old Girls 5; Convent C 0 v. School B 3; St. Pats 4 v. Convent B 3; St. Mary’s 6 v. Old Girls Navy 1. Second Round:— Ross 2 v. Old Girls 5; Convent A 1 v. School A 3; School B 1 v. St. Pelts 5 School A 2 v. Old Girls 5; St. Pats 5 v. St. Mary’s 4. Final: Old Girls 5 v. St. Pats 1.
