N.Z PHOSPHATE QUOTA MAY BE ENOUGH TC END RATIONING
P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, March 23. There is a possibility that New Zealand will get its- full quota of superphosphate fertiliser from overseas next year, which would mean the end of the rationing. This information was given this evening by the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. Mr Cullen), who said, however, that no decision could be made until he had discussed the position with British Phosphate Commissioners-. Mr Cullen added that the British Phosphate Commissioners would be discussing fertiliser supplies in Australia shortly. He expected to be meeting them at the end of April. They should then have full data as to the prospects- for next year. When he had these figures, he would be able to consider whether it would be possible to dispense with the fertiliser rationing. “I would be glad to see the end of rationing”, said Mr Cullen. If a full quota was received, New Zealand would be back to the pre-war figure of 800,000 tons of superphosphate per year.
