Photo From 100 Miles Altitude Appears In U.S. Newspapers
NEW YORK, March 21
The morning papers here to-day print reproductions of the highest aerial photograph ever made. It shows the curvature of the earth, and more than two hundred thousand square miles of the United States and of Mexico.
The camera was part of over two thousand pounds of scientific equipment which was installed in a V-2 rocket launched at the White Sands proving ground in New Mexico on March 7. The camera operated automatically, and an infra-red filter was used to cut the haze.
Search parties spent several days in locating the camera and the rest of the equipment, which was scattered over several miles of desert.
