BUS SERVICE FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN IN KARORO AREA
At the monthly meeting of the Grey Main Home & School Association on Monday evening, Mr. Bruerton presided over a good attendance. A discussion took place regarding the bus service from Karoro. It was stated that the present hours of attendance at the school had been arranged with a view to having the children off the streets before the usual traffic rush before 9 o’clock and away from the school' before the mid-day rush. Children of the Karoro district had to travel by the 8.10 a.m. bus to be at school in time, the 8.40 bus arriving at the school too late. This necessitated children being in the school grounds for some 25 minutes which was detrimental to their health in wet. or cold weather. The mid-day bus did not leave the school until about 12.10 arriving at Karoro about 12.15 or 12.20. The return bus left at 12.40, leaving only about 20 minutes for children to partake of their mid-day meal. Children living beyond the bus stop had less time. The time table did not coincide with the hours of the school. It was argued that, in view of growth of population in the Karoro area a more convenient service should be provided by the bus proprietors for school children. It was decided that the secretary write to the School Committee, who had already made some efforts to have the bus service altered, and ask for further effort to be made, and that the Progress League be requested to support the proposal.
