Westport Water Supply

Because of the effect of a long drj spell, which is considered to be one of the worst experienced in the Buller district for many years, the Westport Borough Council has decided, as a precautionary measure, to enforce a reduction of water pressure in the mains between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Should it be needed, however, for fire-fighting, the pressure will be restored .immediately. At present the countryside presents a barren scene, pastures having been dried up almost to the parched stage, and streams are at a record low level. Small ponds have ceased to hold water and creeks have been reduced to a trickle.
