INVESTMENTS FOR WESTLAND.
Though five of the ten offices in the Westland Postal District last week failed to reach their objective, the district’s quota of £1063 was more than fully realised as a result of a fine response from the other five district offices.. The total lodged was £lll3 14s 6d, which gave an excess of £7O 14s 6d. Blackball was again to the fore with an outstanding contribution of £l4l, which was almost four times quota and represented the greatest surplus of £JI. Ross had actually the best percentage of returns for the week with £lO3 18s 6d, which gave it more than four times its quota of £25 or an excess of £7B 18s 6d. Greymouth was next in merit with £587 18s, an excess or surplus of £67 18s. Brunnertori also doubled its quota with contributions totalling £lOB Is. Runanga invested £lO9 11s, which was £9 Ils in excess of quota. The only office which really failed badly was Kumara with a nil result against a quota of £25. Though not all of the offices lodged their regular quotas, accumulated surpluses allowed them to be credited with quota successes. The total deficiencies of the five offices which failed to reach their objectives was £254 14s.
The investments of the various offices were as follows. — Blackball invested £l4l, surplus £9l; Ross £lO3, (£7B 18s 6d); Greymouth £587 18s, (£67 18s); Brunnerton £lOB Is, (£5B Is); Runanga £lO9 Ils, (£9 Ils); Otira £8 13s (£1 7s); Waiuta £7 Ils, (£l7 9s); Kumara •nil, (£25); Reefton £lO 2?, (£62 18s); and Hokitika £37, (£148).
