KUMARA, Feb. 21.
Mr and Mrs Russell of Christchurch are visiting Mr and Mrs Anichich, of Tui street. Mrs Hendrickson, who has been visiting her mother, has returned to Auckland.
Mr and Airs George Anderson, of Christchurch, former citizen, paid a brief visit to Kumara last week.
Mr and Mrs Michael Fitzgerald, of Lower Hutt, accompanied by Mrs H. J. Seebeck, of Hokitika, visited their native town last week.
Mrs J. Gibson presided at the February meeting of the Women’s Institute. Apologies were received from Mesdames Caithness, junior,' Fahey, Hunter and McNabb, and one new member was welcomed. A link letter was read from the Country Women’s Institute at Woy-Woy, New South Wales.
Nominations for officers for the New Year were received. The Dominion president’s letter was read by Mrs Gibson. It was decided to hold the annual picnic at Lake Kanieri if suitable transport could be arranged. The date proposed being March 8. Five members visited the recent meeting of the Arahura Valley Institute and reported on a very pleasant visit. A demonstration of knitting a cravat was given by Mrs Birss.
For the competition Best Basket of Vegetables-: Mrs H. Sinclair 1; Mrs A. Birss 2. Mesdames W. Evenden and J. Pool were third equal. Best Bloom; Mrs Birss 1; Mrs Sinclair 2; Mrs Reedy 3. In the social half hour competition, the winners were Mesdames Evenden, Gibson and Miss Ritchie.
Supper was- served by the Hostesses, Mesdames Pool and Ollerenshaw and the meeting concluded by singing “God Defend New Zealand.”
