HOKITIKA POST OFFICE
PERMIT ISSUED Plans Being Forwarded (Special to ‘“Argus”), WELLINGTON, Feb. 21. Matters are in hand for the letting of a contract for the construction in Hokitika, of a new Post Office, which is to be located in Weld street, at the north-east corner of its intersection with Sewell street. Hon J. O’Brien advises that the Postmaster-General has informed him that the Building Controller has issued a permit for the erection of the new post office, and he (Mr O’Brien) has suggested that the floor plans and the elevations should be sent to the Chief Postmaster at Greymouth, and the Postmaster at Hokitika for interested parties to see.
It is expected that it will take about three or four weeks to complete the working plans and specifications, so that tenders may be called for the building. The old Post Office, he stated, had become antiquated, whereas the new structure would probably be more congenial for the staff and more suitable for the townspeople, but form an architectorial improvement in the centre of the town.
