HOLIDAY PAY

AND APPEARANCE MONEY FOR AUSTRALIAN WATERSIDERS. CANBERRA, Feb. 19. _ The Australian shipping industry is to be taxed at least three-quarters of a million pounds to provide for the setting up of a Stevedoring Industry Commission. The Labour Party caucus has been told that a taxing bill, providing for this amount, is to be brought down at the same time as a bill establishing a commission. It was explained that payment for appearance money, and annual holidays for the watersiders had to be financed. Freight costs will be increased. Compensation is expected through peace in the industiy.
