CLAY BIRD SHOOTING
West Coast Gun Club REVIVAL OF OLD SPORT A West Coast Gun Club was formed at a special meeting held at Mr M. J. Fogarty’s rooms, Mackay Street, Greymouth, on Wednesday evening last. Present were Messrs G. Hahn, J. Howat, J. Goodall, F. Bell, J. Shaw, F. Silcock, J. Reid, F. Hahn, G. Hahn, junr., and T. Heineger. Mr G. Hahn was elected president, Mr T. Heineger .secretary, and Messrs G. Hahn and J. Shaw referees. Messrs G. Hahn and J. Howat were elected handicappers. It was decided to hold the first shoot on Saturday, March 15, at Victoria Park, Greymouth, the programme to be:—2.s Bird eyeopener, sweepstakes; a 10 bird handicap shoot for a gold medal and sweepstake (sweepstake optional), and a 5 bird quail drive. This was the first attempt to revive shooting on the West Coast after a lapse of several years during the war, and the resumption of shooting activities is keenly awaited by all interested in this popular sport. Although the Coast has lost some of its old key members from its various clubs, some new members with formidable records from the Canterbury district, are now resident on the Coast and will take part in future shooting. Interesting contests should eventuate as a consequence.
