RIFT IN GERMANY
AMERICANS AND RUSSIANS BERLIN, Feb. 18. Lieut.-General Clay, American Commander in Germany, told a press conference: “We are not mud-sling-ers and we are not going to become mud-slingers. It is not our policy to attack our allies in the German press. We will just concentrate on making the facts available. Sharp attacks against American occupational policies which were appearing in the Russian-controlled German press would not provoke the Americans to adopt similar tactics. He, personally, did not get excited about being attacked. He said the Allied Control Council’s report on Germany, which is to be sent to the Foreign Ministers by F'ebruary 25 for their meeting in Moscow, is only half complete. He added that he was not too happy about it, but things might, change in the next week. The committee preparing the report, he said, had reached agreement on demilitarisation, finance, labour, manpower, and parts of the economic situation, but no agreement could be reached on denazification.
