HOKITIKA, Nov. IT.

Mr E. W. Heenan presided at the monthly meeting of the Westland Hospital Board on Thursday evening last. He reported that no replies had been received to the advertisement for the position of Surgeon Superintendent from the Army Forces in Japan or from England. The Director General of Health advised that the hoard should' readvertise the position. It was unanimously decided to recommend the appointment of Dr. E. J. Velvin as Superintendent as from November 26, 1946,. and to offer the post of Assistant Superintendent to Dr. Lyness, who will succeed' Dr. Arnott at Hokitika. Although Dr. D. A. Arnott would complete his term at Westland Hospital on November 25, his services are available at the hospital until his successor arrived. The board resolved to ask the Minister of Health to approve the appointments. The House Manager advised that one of the new steam presses had arrived from England, and would be installed in the laundry. Department of Health wrote that approval would be given for the issue of stockings and shoes to trainees only. The board’s engineer was granted authority to attend the engineers’ conference at Wanganui The secretary reported that difficulty was experienced in . securing a young lady for the hospital office. Mrs Murfitt had kindly consented to help out, and would manage the office until a new appointee took over on November 19. The chairman expressed thanks to Mrs Murfitt for her kind offer. The board agreed to erect shelters at the tennis court, and the chairman’s action in arranging for the court to be topdressed was approved. Miss Ramsay wrote thanking the board for the donation to the Nurses’ library at hospital, also stating that the picture projector would arrive at the hospital this montht. The Minister of Housing advised that arrangements would be made for the supply of material to enable the cottage at the hospital to be completed, rnc chairman said that the material had arrived and the carpenter had begun work on the project.
