WARTIME CONTROLS

CANADA ENDING THEM. OTTAWA. Aug. 26. The Canadian House of Commons has adopted an amendment automatically terminating wartime emergency, powers as from March 3 next. The amendment was moved by Progressive Conservative Party Leader John Bracken. It was described as dangerous by the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr St. Laurent. The Government had introduced a Bill which proposed extending the emergency powers until 60 days after the beginning of the next session so as to give time to carry out the Government’s announced intention of bringing in separate legislation next session to authorise the continuance of such controls as would be deemed to be necessary.
