WATAROA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent!. At the recent fat stock sales at sthe Wataroa Co-operative yards, most of the stock were purchased by butchers of northern towns and have been driven to Ross fonrailing. At a social evening held at the residence of his parents in honour of his twenty-first birthday, Mr H. Thompson was presented with a gold key and a well-filled envelope by Mr Thomas Nolan. Mr D. Eyles, K. Harper, A. Cane. C. Routhan. and G. Thompson (brother of the guest), all spoke highly of the young man and wished him every success in his future years. Mr H. Thompson, in replying, thanked all th®se present for their gifts and expressions of goodwill. The Rugby football match between Wataroa and Waitangi teams was postponed because of bad' weather. The heavy rainfall and hailstorms are having an ill-effect on the lambing season in Wataroa, and to date the loss of lambs in the district is reported to be considerable. The homestead and shed of Mr W. Smith, of Wataroa, was struck by lightning during the recent storms, and as a result of the impact the buildings suffered serious damage.
