HOKITIKA NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent] HOKITIKA, August 27. Fish merchants are arranging re_frigeration accommodation at Hokitika to meet the demands of fishermen, and one Motueka firm is having a new freezer built at the wharf to accommodate about 1000 four-gallon tins of fish. Nelson Fisheries have freezing facilities at the Hokitika wharf, and with transport services to Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington, and the local canning factory, whitebait fishers will be well catered for this season. The activity among local buyers, plus the demand from the outside markets, should secure record prices for fishermen this’ season. Already fishermen are receiving inquiries from all parts of New Zealand for whitebait, and it is possible that some of the frozen supplies will find their way ,to the Australian markets. The County Engineer and members of the Council visited the scene of erosion at Three Mile. The Arahura Club has given notice of the withdrawal of its team from the senior competition.
